COPING WITH THE NEW NORMAL - COLLAGE AND ILLUSTRATION ARTIST, JORDI CHULIÁ

Collage and illustration artist Jordi Chuliá has developed a style that one’s eyes simply cannot resist. He began to create collages solely as a hobby in 2013 and has since then caught the attention of top creatives in the fashion industry such as Josep Font, former creative director of Spanish luxury brand Delpozo. While his work tends to incorporate juxtaposing elements, his finished product always results in perfect symmetry. This is one of the reasons his work is eye-catching to its viewers because it makes them ponder his reinterpretation of the original image and the new form of beauty that he has introduced through his work.

Read below to see how Jordi Chuliá is staying creative and coping during self-isolation in Valencia, Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. What is a typical day for you in isolation?

In my days of isolation, I usually spend most of my time on the computer learning to do new

things with Photoshop, painting, exercising, and listening to a lot of music. The hours go by very quickly.

2. How do you stay creative in lockdown?

As I said before, I try to learn new things to improve my work. It also motivates me to know that many people are spending a lot of time on their mobile during this time and that my work can have more of an impact than it did previously.

3. How has COVID-19 changed your goals?

I was going to move to Madrid to study for my master's degree, but I now have to wait until everything is calmer.

4. Will you be changing the way you practice your business in the long term?

No, my form at the moment is the same since my business is online.

5. Will this have an impact on your process? Has this already changed your creative process?

No, my way of working has always been from home. My creative process is the same, but I

am learning to take things slower and better.

6. What is your vision for the future?

I think the future is going to be full of good things since I feel that we are all going to have evolved more on a personal level.

7. Isolation seems to be good for the environment. For instance, there has been a decrease in the level of global air pollution. What is the most positive change you have seen from this pandemic?

One of the most positive changes will be that people will appreciate the little things more and enjoy their time more after this pandemic.

8. Do you think the consumer will now pay more attention to buying locally and to how sustainable the clothing is?

Yes, I think people are going to start buying in a different way and they will not

spend as much money. Regarding sustainable clothing, I think there is still a long way to

go to make people aware.
