NEW YORK — This year the world witnessed a spectacle of archival designs at the 2023 Met Gala. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The exhibit consists of various pieces from the lifespan of Karl Lagerfeld, with the theme this year as "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty." The red carpet was sparkling with designs from Karl's career, a few from Chloe, Fendi, and, more popularly, Chanel.
Vogue Editor and famous event organizer Anna Wintour and Karl knew each other for years and had a close professional and personal friendship. The two first met in the 1970s when Wintour was a fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar, and Lagerfeld was a designer at Chloe. Over time, Wintour and Lagerfeld joined together on various projects, including fashion shoots for Vogue and collaborations on fashion shows. Wintour was also a firm supporter of Lagerfeld's position as the creative director of Chanel, attending many of his fashion shows and featuring his creations in the pages of Vogue.
At IRK Magazine, we have selected a few costumes to share that demonstrate creativity, innovation, functionality, and celebration of the lifelong legacy of Karl Lagerfeld.
