Gaultier Haute Couture 2019/20 Fall Winter
Gaultier Haute couture 2019/20 show took place in Rue Saint-Martin Paris’ 3rd district. We were all sensing excitement, joy, and curiousity to see what the iconic French Couturier had created for this season as his shows are always spectacles.
The designer is known to be admired for his rebellious ways of breaking standards, customs, and codes of what we see or expect in society. He proves this through his collections. He renovates these standardized notions and transforms them into his own. This principle of his was reflected on the coats. He instead made shoulders so small they would be covered by the oversized collars popping out along with XXL belts.
Curious about everything and questions anything
When it comes to Gaultier he is curious about everything and questions anything. He is not afraid to try something different despite of what everybody else is doing. Hence, the garments resembling tents in forms of capes, dresses ranging from night gowns in tulle fabric to wedding attire. Also, puffy jackets in poppy green.
Creative Director also proves to be a master illusionist as he mentions that he was always intrigued by illusions and did not want to use real fur this time. Therefore, he created puffy jackets with motifs all over imitating red, gray fox fur and topping it off with feathers. In addition, sublime satin capes in black, vivid shimmy green, and white. These colors rippled down with every movement down the runway. Some were patterned in panther on the inside. Along with an absolutely ravishing impression of panther fur on a very structured XXL collared coat, it was excellent for the Fall/Winter season worn by Cindy Bruna.
The audience couldn’t help but dance
The ambiance was booming with 90’s pop as the audience couldn’t help but dance in their seats! We could feel the vibrations from the music and see the walls covered with multiple screens. These displayed details of the garments such as sparkling glitter on the seams of collars. There were multi-colored feathers in striking hues of light and darker green, turquoise, fringes streaming down, hoop earrings, slick gloves to the elbow, and polka-dotted prints. Also, gleaming belts covered the top silhouette of the female form to smaller fine ones above the waist, bum bags in brown and white carried on both sides of the hips.
Fusing of unpredictable color combinations
Quoting the designer as he once said « I look at things from an unusual perspective and question what’s unexpected. » Thus, the fusing of unpredictable color combinations including deep Burgundy paired with bright violet. Also, autumn scarlet orange, yellow, with a hint of emerald, and Tyrian purple.
From a young age Gaultier was very interested in cinema and music which he evidently demonstrates in his fashion shows. These are more of an entertaining unforgettable performance. After almost 40 years of admirable work he never fails to astonish us. He leaves us with wanting more and spreading his contagious smile.
