Juana Martin’s inspiration and vision
Spanish heritage makes a powerful statement at Juana Martin’s Couture spring-summer 2020 show, presented in Paris for the second time. The collection took place within the Rococo halls of the Embassy of Spain, a setting with a perfect frame, gilded details, and golden atmosphere for the opulent flamenco-inspired shapes brought by the Cordoban designer, Juana Martin. She drew inspiration from the natural landscape, local traditions, and vibrant culture of her natal region. Furthermore, Juana Martin incorporated both history and modernity into each creation.

Design, details, and movement
The looks of the show transported the audience into a very vibrant yet contemporary vision of Spain, full of color, texture, and movement. This vision was emphasised at the end. Notably, Rossy de Palma expressively walked down the runway, performing a few subtle flamenco arm movements that captured the spirit of the collection designed by Juana Martin.

Earthy tones dominated the colour palette, while floral motifs appeared in nearly every look. These elements showed through delicate embroideries, expressive prints, and abstract dress volumes that communicated both strength and sensuality. Almost every look framed the models’ faces, enhanced by accessories. Moreover, beautiful crown-like flower accessories by “Talentino hats” were great highlight pieces. In other ensembles, veils made from the same fabric as the dresses, extended the silhouettes outward. As a result, this visually amplified the grandeur of classic couture forms. In fact, Juana Martin’s attention to detail stood out throughout the collection.
Furthermore, playful elements like black-and-white lace, polka dots, and cascading ruffles reinforced the feminine and spirited mood of the collection. Juana Martín also incorporated subtle nods to traditional Spanish dance, like layered skirts and flared hems. These details created movement and rhythm as the models walked. Altogether, Juana Martin’s Spring–Summer 2020 couture show offered a proud, reimagined Spain. It was rooted in heritage, alive with energy, and confidently projected into the present.
