Stylus Reinvents the Art of Listening with an Acoustic Salon

In the vibrant streets of New York, at 48 Clinton Street, Stylus is preparing to open as a unique private members club and acoustic salon. The new venue is dedicated to ephemeral arts and innovation. Through a program designed to animate the Lower East Side day and night, Stylus will bring together music, performance, gastronomy, and science within a singular immersive experience.

Designed primarily around the art of sound, Stylus will feature immersive listening environments imagined by Devon Turnbull, founder of OJAS audio equipment. The sound designer developed a custom analog system intended to transform listening into a truly immersive sensory experience. However, Stylus extends far beyond music. This place also serves as a space for encounters and exchange. It hosts performances, film screenings, curated conversations, and culinary experiences. More intimate spaces will also allow members to gather for listening sessions, podcast recordings, meetings, or even short private stays.

When Architecture Becomes a Sound Experience

O’Neill Rose Architects completely reimagined the building. Based in Brooklyn, the firm is known for its architectural approach blending contemporary identity, the memory of a place, and sensory experience. The project also brought together several major creative figures, including Paolo Matera and Selena Privitera. Stylus was once home to the LoHo recording studios and later to the rehearsal spaces of the Blue Man Group.

From the outside, Stylus asserts its identity through a façade composed of curved aluminum panels. These create diffused, almost pixelated reflections of the buildings lining Clinton Street. Inside, Studio Sabine Marcelis notably designed the furniture. The studio also conceived the DJ and vinyl selection station alongside Devon Turnbull and O’Neill Rose Architects.

Sound experience lies at the core of the project. Acoustic consultations were led by Amadeus Acoustics, Bourdeau Acoustical Design, and Criterion Acoustics. Thanks to the immersive system developed by Amadeus Acoustics, Stylus will recreate a wide range of acoustic atmospheres. Visitors will move from the intimacy of a jazz club to the monumental ambiance of a cathedral. No matter where one stands within the building, every detail has been designed to deliver an exceptional listening experience.

Ephemeral

Ephemeral, a listening room within Stylus, will also host the culinary program imagined by Michelin-starred chef Anita Lo. Inspired by contemporary American cuisine with strong Japanese influences, her menu will highlight seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Culinary workshops, wine tastings, tea ceremonies, and private dinners will also shape this immersive gastronomic experience. Nearby, Bar Stylus, inspired by speakeasies, will offer a selection of espresso, tea, cocktails, and refreshing drinks.

Acoustic Salon Spaces Designed for Listening and Connection

Subliminal will take shape as a multifunctional space dedicated to listening sessions, podcasting, and meditation. The project will also feature a 40Hz sound therapy experience designed to encourage relaxation and cognitive stimulation. Furthermore, located on the mezzanine, Loho Studio will pay tribute to the building’s musical history through a recording and podcast studio. An adjacent Green Room will notably host professional meetings, private dinners, artistic gatherings, as well as more intimate events.

Stylus Where Wellness Meets Acoustic Salon Experience

The third floor will focus more on wellness and hospitality. Visitors will discover a lounge equipped with Friendly Pressure speakers, designed for remote work, retreats, and relaxation, along with access to a sunlit terrace. A high-end kitchen will also host tastings, workshops, and private dinners imagined by guest chefs. Finally, the Acoustic Suite will extend the experience through a private space equipped with Friendly Pressure audio installations. Designed as an indoor-outdoor listening lounge, the suite will accommodate professional retreats, private music sessions, as well as short stays.

Rather than simply being a private members club, Stylus aims to become a true space for sensory experimentation, where architecture, sound, gastronomy, and contemporary culture constantly interact. Through its layered spaces, multidisciplinary programming, and experience-driven approach, the project seeks to reinvent the way visitors engage with music, listening, and cultural exchange in the heart of New York. Stylus will officially open in fall 2026.
