Y/Project A/W 2021 Mens & Womenswear
Y/Project (link) has done it again. I could just leave it at that and send you on your way, but I’ll give the people what they want and elaborate further about Y/Project’s exceptional work.
Firstly, this collection has merged Mens and Women’s wear together to create a single collection. It will be presented bi-annually. This merger has broken traditional fashion week rules and allows the fashion house Y/Project to make their own rules. Who wouldn’t want to live by their own rules? By steering away from these traditions, Y/Project is able to bring us a more authentic and creative compilation. This is important to them, and in theory is important to their consumers. Essentially they’re giving the people what they want and I’m in the front row with my cheerleading pom-poms.
This collection sees creativity and constructional making bind together to create twisted silhouettes. These almost architectural silhouettes curve and swerve around the human body’s form, creating a captivating elegant ensemble. Multiplied necklines create feminine frills where off-center seams make for a jigsaw of fabric deliciousness, showcasing Y/Project’s distinctive style.
Canada goose
An element of deconstruction is prominent in this collection. It reflects the house’s ethos of creativity and expression. This season’s outerwear pieces are in collaboration with Canada goose, one of the world’s leading outerwear makers. They bring their own genius to create oversized parkas and capes. Y/Project infuses its identity into these items, bringing a unique touch that only Y/Project can achieve.
Beat of their own drum
When I previously stated ‘’Y/Project has done it again” I wasn’t lying, was I? They have successfully merged a men’s and women’s collection together. This creates a range that is inclusive and diverse, allowing viewers to simply enjoy the collection without the gender titles looming. There is no doubt that fashion in today’s world is taking a hard hit; however, in light of this darkness, it has allowed for brands like Y/Project to march to the beat of their own drum. They step back and create something that is 100% authentically them, and for that, I am thankful.
