Manish Arora – Chinese Emojis Brighten Runway
On the third day of Paris fashion week, Indian fashion designer, Manish Arora brought summer back to Paris with his colourful and bright collection. There were many hints to Japan. Starting with the models’ makeup, which referred to the Geisha culture. White faces and petit rosebud lips adored the models. Together with Samuri style top knots set the scene.
However the Japanese references didn’t stop there. Fabrics were heavily embroidered with Koi Carp, Cherry blossom and lotus flowers. Coats and Jackets were adorned with brightly coloured Asian scenes reminiscent of the more commonly know traditional blue and white pottery. Except instead of the standard blue and white, orange, pinks and reds were in order. Creating a firework of colour for the eyes. Repeat patterns of Japanese stylised clouds and swirls adorned over sided, puffed up scarves. Knotted to replicate the Sumo wrestlers top knot all added to the spectacular visual feast.
The Chinese emoji, Tuzki, also made an appearance in the collection. Tuzki (pronounced Tuts-ki) was created in 2006 by Beijing illustrator Momo Wang. Over the years, it became an internet sensation in China. By using the famous bunny Manish Arora created a Manga like, fun ambiance. Which definitely inspired IRK Magazine to play. The main colors used in this seasons’ collection orange and hot pink. Brought the much needed hot temperatures back to Paris.
With this collection, Manish Arora brought a lot of positive energy, opening some minds that black is not the only colour. This was a show which showed off the colours of both Japan and India, big bright and in some instances clashing. An absolute treat.
