Dazani Price is a soon-to-be assistant buyer in New York City and a vibrant creative voice to watch. In the summer of 2024, she worked with The Cannon Media Group as an assistant stylist and, additionally, contributed compelling fashion pieces to IRK Magazine. That season, she says, “unlocked another creative love I have always had: writing.” Collaborating with IRK—a platform that champions diverse creatives and their unique perspectives—felt, in her words, “not just exciting, but empowering.” As a result, the experience profoundly shaped her perspective on the city she now calls home.

Meet the Visionary: Dazani Price’s NYC Journey

“My name is Dazani Price, a fashion merchandising student at Texas Christian University and a soon-to-be assistant buyer in New York City.” So begins our conversation with the vibrant creative. In the summer of 2024, Price interned at The Cannon Media Group as an assistant stylist, and crucially, she also contributed compelling fashion pieces to IRK Magazine. That summer, significantly, “unlocked another creative love I have always had: writing.” Collaborating with IRK, a platform that champions diverse creatives and their unique perspectives, felt “not just exciting, but empowering.” This experience profoundly shaped her approach to the city she now calls home.

Why New York? The City’s Irresistible Pull

“New York is a city I fell in love with and truly adore,” Price explains, her passion palpable. The magnetic energy, the inherent charm, and the relentless hustle-and-bustle culture among its streets instantly entranced her. Especially as a devoted fashion lover, she constantly found herself wandering the streets in her best outfits, people-watching in Soho, “pretending to be a local – though, in spirit, I already was.”

“Everyone here, Price observes, boasts their own distinct sense of style; she loves people-watching the vibrant fashion scene, often dressing up to feel like a local. ‘If you can’t be it, fake it ’til you make it, right?’ she quips. New York, indeed, is the city of dreams. Price finds profound peace amidst its chaos, knowing other aspiring creatives surround her. The city’s sheer individuality, in fact, allowed her to fully embrace her own. ‘Nowhere has made me feel as seen as this city did,’ she reflects. ‘It’s alive with dreamers, doers, and artists, making it exactly where I need to be.'”

NYC’s Culinary & Nightlife Pulse: Dazani’s Top Spots

Best Restaurant: Little Ruby’s, 225 W 4th St, West Village

This charming spot perfectly captures the breezy energy of downtown. The vodka pasta and truffle fries are, in Price’s words, “unforgettable – I still think about them to this day.” She advises: “Grab a cocktail at the bar while you wait, and soak in the youthful, vibrant atmosphere.” It’s effortlessly chic, a perfect West Village gem without trying too hard.

The Ideal Date Night: Jean’s, 415 Lafayette St

Jean’s embodies everything one wants a first date to be: moody, elevated, and a touch mysterious. Italian classics meet downtown cool in this multi-level space featuring a distinct bar, lounge, and bistro. The vibes? Price suggests thinking “Sex and the City meets Studio 54,” especially if you stay late and dance under the disco ball. Pro tip: make a reservation and come early on weekends.

Essential Street Food: Lucia Pizza of Soho, 375 Canal St

There’s nothing more quintessential than grabbing a slice of New York pizza on a bustling street corner. Lucia’s white pizza, specifically, is a dream: crispy, cheesy, and worth every single bite. It offers perfect satisfaction when you need to grab a quick, authentic bite.

Favorite Bar: South Soho Bar, 191 Centre St

This spot boasts a cool crowd, a great playlist, and the kind of espresso martini that “could ruin you for all others.” The vibe is laid-back yet meticulously curated; consequently, it’s an excellent place to get the night started with friends.

Favorite Pub: Jimmy’s Corner, 140 W 44th St

Just steps from Times Square, Jimmy’s stands as a true dive bar with soul. Boxing memorabilia lines the walls, and the crowd is as real as it gets. Whether for a pre-Broadway drink or a casual night out, Jimmy’s consistently delivers old-school NYC charm. Drinks are cheap, making it a fun spot when you’re looking to go out but still enjoy a chill night.

The Daily Rituals: Coffee, Art & Fashion Finds of Dazani Price

Favorite Coffee Spot: The Green Room, Blank Street in Soho, 63 Spring Street, New York, NY, 10012

While several Blank Streets dot the city, the one specifically in Soho is “a must-go-to location.” Price reveals her ritual: “My day was never started until I picked up coffee from here, especially their iced strawberry and cream latte – chef’s kiss.”

Beloved NYC Area: Soho

Soho, in essence, is the area where Price most often found herself spending her days. As a dedicated fashion enthusiast, she grew to know every corner of that district. It’s precisely where she shops, people-watches, and discovers hidden gems. Most of her “doing nothing” days, she admits, often turn into exhilarating style safaris here. “It’s where I feel most alive,” she shares, “and I like to fully submerge myself into pretending I am one of the other savvy locals here.”

Why the constant return to David Zwirner? Price sums it up: “Innovative. Influential. Always evolving.” With renowned artists like Yayoi Kusama and Jeff Koons gracing its halls, Zwirner consistently keeps her creatively nourished. Consequently, it’s her absolute must-see gallery every time she’s in town.

Favorite Museum: The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), 1000 5th Ave, New York, NY 10028

This museum is so grand, Price notes, “it would take someone forever to see every single room.” If you have to see one exhibit specifically, she highly recommends the Met Gala exhibition. She personally saw the latest, “Reawakening Fashion” exhibit in 2024, and describes it as “absolutely breathtaking experiencing the designs firsthand.”

Favorite Boutique/Shop: 2nd Street Soho, 27 Howard St 1st Floor, New York, NY 10013

A chain, yes, but a classic one at that, Price asserts you “cannot go wrong with second-hand stores in New York, especially 2nd Street USA.” She often frequented the Soho location since she tends to always shop in that area mainly, but several other locations are sprawled throughout the city. She especially loves finding vintage and unique, one-of-a-kind pieces she can thrift at a reasonable price.

Weekend Whispers & Urban Escapes

Saturday Night Spot: Little Sister, 112 E 11th St

This lounge is a must for any Sex and the City series fanatic, offering very swanky and exclusive vibes. Getting in is probably the hardest part, unfortunately, but once you’re past the velvet rope, you’re enveloped by a dimly lit lounge with an overlooking luminescent bar. The vibes, Price assures, are always right for a fun night with good friends and good music.

Sunday Rituals: Central Park

Sundays, according to Price, call for the perfect day to head to Central Park and lay out on its “Great Lawn” with a blanket, a book, and some snacks. During sunny days especially, so many people are out either just lounging in the sun catching a tan, playing spike ball with friends, or taking a leisurely stroll through the park.

Peace and Quiet in NYC: West Side Highway at Sunset

Once sunset begins to hit, Price knows it’s time to head straight to the West Side Highway, whether for just a walk or a refreshing run. Going for a run by the West Side Highway during sunset is probably her favorite leisure activity to clear her mind and slow down. The reflection of the pink and orange sunsets against the Hudson River, with the New Jersey skyline highlighting it all, makes it seem almost too good to be true. No matter how many times she goes, she never tires of it; each visit feels more and more euphoric, “like I am running into the sunset.”

The Absolute Must-Do in New York: Bridge Run

Price insists: Wake up early one morning, preferably at the crack of dawn, and go for a nice walk or run from the Manhattan Bridge across to the Brooklyn Bridge. Indeed, you get the best views of the entire area, and it quite literally makes you feel like you are on top of the city. Moreover, being on the bridge is so exhilarating. Ultimately, gazing upon the city with everyone else slowly waking up, for a moment, it’s just you and the skyline—thus, an intimate reminder of why you’re here.

The Ultimate Designer: Roberto Cavalli for Dazani Price

If Price could only wear one designer, price no object, her immediate choice is Roberto Cavalli. “His archival pieces are like wearable art: dramatic, intricate, and endlessly unique,” she explains. “I don’t own any… yet. But one day, I hope to!”

Indeed, Dazani Price’s guide offers a vibrant, insider’s view of New York, blending fashion, culture, and personal moments of serenity amidst the exhilarating chaos. Which of her beloved spots will you explore on your next visit?
