2 Male Pink Showgirl Duo

J’adore La Vie – Hidden London

J’adore La Vie is a high end cabaret and couture duo act fusing dance, burlesque and immersive theatre. Established in Paris, residing in London, J’adore La Vie is a cabaret company inspired by haute couture. With bespoke hand made costumes that emulate the catwalk and the avant-garde.

J’adore La Vie is a collective of twenty eight professional dancers and models, working in the dance and fashion industries. Janet and Ami take time out from their heavy schedules to talk about their Hidden London.

What’s your Favourite Restaurant & Why?

Janet: the breakfast club, by the canal in Hackney Wick where I live

Ami: I love Indian food, Colaba, West Hampstead. I either get a take away with my partner or eat out. All depends on how tired I am after a week of shows at the Kit Kat club (cabaret the musical).

What’s your Favourite Bar & Pub Why?

Janet: Any east London bar with live music, jazz/rock. Jazz cafe Dalston As for a pub it’s the The Empress E9 (amazing Sunday roast)

Ami: I don’t drink so I don’t go to bars that often. If I do go for a social with friends, it would either be a posh hotel like the Savoy hotel in Charring cross or The Landmark, Marylebone. Where I can properly dress up and feel glam. Or an underground/small bar that plays old school rnb/hip hop so I can have a dance.

As I live near Hampstead the pubs over there are great for a Sunday roast or pub garden vibe. The best being The Holly Bush.

Both: the V&A for all there fashion exhibitions of course!

What’s your Favourite Boutique/Shop?

Janet: Last big purchase was a suit from designer Matthew David Andrews. Then recently just did a work trip in Lithuania and pounded the thrift shops.

Ami: Traid charity shop, I love buying second hand because this always find gems in these type of places. My favourite of the chains are in Dalston kingsland and Camden.

Where can you J’adore La Vie, be found on a Saturday night in London?

Janet: pretty much performing back to back shows at every well known late night cabaret/diner show in London. My residencies are The Rex room in Chelsea- 151 kings Road. Then The Box Soho.

Ami: you will find me at the Kit Kat club ‘Cabaret the musical’ at the Playhouse theatre. Saturdays are double show days and the most popular of the week.

It’s Sunday in London what do you do?

Janet: Sleep most of the day like a vampire, after late nights performing. Im currently performing at the Box London and the Rex rooms. When I get up, I go to the Breakfast Club along Hackney Wick canal for brunch and a beer. Followed by a spot of plant shopping in Columbia Road market.

Ami: As I am currently starring in the West End musical Cabaret, which is 8 shows a week. So a Sunday for me is a physical and mental recovery. So I have a lie in, followed by a big breakfast sat in my beautiful garden. Followed either by a walk through Hampstead Heath, or travelling to my home town to spend time with my nephews.

Describe where does J’adore La Vie go for some peace and quiet in London?

Janet: As I am always working in central London, I shall spend the rest of my time where I live in Hackney Wick. If I needed some peace and quiet I would take a walk along the canals, headphones on. Or go for a pint in one of the local bars/pubs.

Ami: Bare foot in my garden. As it’s practically something out of a fairytale. Or Hampstead Heath near where I live. Walking through all the trees and being at one with my thoughts and nature.

Name one thing you must to do when you come to London?

Janet: Book yourself in to watch a cabaret show. See all the incredibly talented cabaret artists in London do their thing.

Ami: Obviously come to the Kit Kat club at the playhouse theatre and watch the incredible cast!

Our editor at large Daniel Syrett, or SYRETT, which the artist is better known as, brings his extensive knowledge of the fashion and art industries to his role here at IRK Magazine. While SYRETT is recognized for his glossy Haute-Couture pieces, Daniel is also the founder and curator of Runway Gallery, the fashion-focused gallery that represents some familiar names from IRK, including our founders, French Cowboy. Daniel may be making his mark on the vibrant London art scene at present; however, his unique style is based on different influences from Daniel Syrett’s past.

After studying fashion at Jacob Kramer College of Art in his home city of Leeds, Daniel moved to Liverpool, where his style was influenced by the alternative creative’s of Merseyside. After successfully launching one of the most exclusive nightclubs in the country, Dan travelled to London to work as a freelance stylist, in a move which saw his career in fashion skyrocket. To date, Daniel Syrett has worked alongside some of the most prestigious names in the industry, including Elle, All Saints, EMI, the BBC, and London Fashion Week. Among his latest collaborations, SYRETT is most recognised for his partnership with True Brit Nail Varnish which is portrayed through his glossy art pieces. SYRETT uses the varnish as a medium to create highly polished, and highly fashionable works of art which expose the intertwining relationship between the fashion and art worlds. This connection is epitomised by his most recent collection in which SYRETT named each piece after some of the most iconic designers, including Alexander, Jean-Paul, Yves and Vivienne, with the latter designer being a frequent visitor to Daniel’s former boutique, Controversy.

As a result of working with these stylish clients, Daniel Syrett has solidified a global reputation as both a fashion stylist and an artist. His work has graced everywhere from New York and Florence, to the pastel-glazed buildings on Miami’s South Beach, where an exhibition of SYRETT’S work is also planned for the near future. It is, however, unsurprising that Daniel Syrett has reached such heights, after seeing his work published in over 200 National and International publications, alongside several other books, including the Booth-Clibborn Edition of the counter-culture book, High Flyers.

Alongside his role at IRK, Daniel continues to make his name in London and beyond, most specifically through Beautalism: the emerging art movement which is shaping the art scene across the capital. As the founder of the Beautalists, Daniel Syrett aims to bridge the gap between the public and the artist and make art accessible to all. This is all in a days work for Dan, who balances his Runway Gallery empire with his work as an artist. With other exciting partnerships launching with the W Hotel, Soho’s Century Club and ROOME, the future for the head of Beautalism looks beautiful indeed.
