The New Museum is set to have a spring exhibition opening on March 21st, 2026. The exhibition in question is called New Humans: Memories of the Future
What is the New Museum?
The New Museum of Contemporary Art is located in Manhattan, New York. Accompanied by the new exhibition, the museum itself is reopening on March 21st. This follows a 60,000 square-foot expansion designed by OMA / Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas, in collaboration with Executive Architect Cooper Robertson. The new expansion provides twice the gallery space for visitors to experience the museum’s installations. Additionally, there is more venue space to host different public programs and special events. Importantly, this New Museum of Contemporary Art was the first museum dedicated to contemporary art. They specialize in showing exhibitions by artists in the last decade, and emerging artists as well.

New Humans: Memories of the Future
The expanded New Museum will host the first exhibition, New Humans: Memories of the Future. More than 200 artists, writers, scientists, architects, and filmmakers will contribute their works to this enormous thematic study. This study will examine how significant cultural and technological shifts have sparked new ideas about what it means to be “human.” It will place artists’ most current and new pieces.
In addition to New Humans, the institute will unveil several significant new commissions. These will be on permanent display in specific locations within and around the building. These include a piece by Tschabalala Self for the museum’s façade. There will also be a monumental sculpture by Klě Hosnedlová for the institute’s new Atrium Stair.
Furthermore, expect a piece by Sarah Lucas for the museum’s new public plaza at the building’s entrance. In short, visitors will get a unique perspective on the museum as the New Museum welcomes them with innovative art.

During their opening, the New Institute is offering free admission for that weekend, March 21st and 22nd. Inviting everyone from around the world to come and enjoy their new installation, the museum opens its doors to all. Moreover, for those seeking to discover the New Museum for the first time, this is a wonderful opportunity. To celebrate, there will also be music and activities for art lovers of all ages.
