Alexandre J – The Elixir Collector
Marine Jean Michel
For more than fifteen years, Alexandre .J has cultivated a unique vision of perfumery. In this vision, art, design, and craftsmanship come together to create far more than fragrances. Among the exceptional offerings from the House is Elixir. This scent embodies this dedication to artistry. The House is built around the idea that perfume is a complete sensory experience. This is why it has distinguished itself through its refined visual universe, sculptural bottles, and passion for exceptional objects. Each creation reflects meticulous artisanal expertise. The vessel is considered just as important as the fragrance itself. As a result, every scent becomes a true work of art.
Remaining faithful to its heritage while embracing the future, Alexandre.J is now reimagining one of its most iconic collections with The Collector Elixir. This new interpretation preserves the soul of the original creations. At the same time, it presents them through a distinctly contemporary aesthetic, embodied by sophisticated colored-glass bottles. This evolution perfectly illustrates the House’s DNA. It shows a commitment to preserving the artisanal excellence that has shaped its reputation while offering a bold and modern vision of luxury perfumery.
On the occasion of the launch of The Collector Elixir, Amélie Jabban, Brand Director, opens the doors to the world of Alexandre.J. She shares her vision of perfumery, where emotion, craftsmanship, and imagination play an essential role.
IRK: There is a strong sense of visual storytelling in your creations, almost cinematic in nature. Do some fragrances begin with images, memories, or materials before the olfactory concept itself takes shape?
Amélie: Our fragrances are often born from an entire universe. The story rarely begins with a single olfactory note; instead, it starts with an image, a material, a color, or a sensation. The motif placed at the center of the bottle can serve as a starting point. As a result, it helps create a coherence between what we see, what we touch, and what we feel.
The fragrance then brings an invisible dimension to that universe, much like a soundtrack accompanying a visual story.
IRK: Perfume is often described as a form of intimate memory. Is there a particular emotion or feeling you consistently hope to evoke in those who wear your creations?
Amélie: Perfume is a deeply personal experience. The emotion it evokes is never entirely universal; each person interprets it through their own history, memories, and identity.
Our intention is above all to create a sense of well-being, confidence, and harmony with oneself. A fragrance accompanies a person during a specific moment in life. Sometimes, it can reveal a facet of their personality that they wish to express.
IRK: In your approach, the bottle seems almost as important as the fragrance itself. Do you think today’s consumer is looking as much for a collectible object as for an olfactory signature?
Amélie: Today’s consumer is seeking a complete experience. Perfume is no longer limited to what one wears. It carries memories and accompanies meaningful moments in life.
The bottle plays an essential role because it represents the physical embodiment of the fragrance. Even before discovering a scent, one is already entering a universe. Just as in gastronomy or art, aesthetics play a fundamental role in shaping emotion.
IRK: Do you see your fragrances as objects meant to be worn, or also displayed within an interior space, almost like design pieces?
Amélie: A fragrance belongs both to a daily ritual and to one’s intimate environment. It is something we touch and use, but also something we look at.
We enjoy creating objects that naturally find their place within a home. This is because they tell a story about the person who owns them. Much like a work of art or a decorative piece, a bottle can become an expression of personal taste and sensitivity.
IRK: Niche perfumery seems to be experiencing a renewed appetite for extravagance. How do you perceive this evolution of the market today?
Amélie: Niche perfumery is not necessarily about excess or extravagance. Above all, it represents a desire to stand apart and to reconnect with a sense of authenticity.
We live in a world where many things tend to look alike. Perfume therefore becomes a way to make a more personal choice. It is also part of a more thoughtful approach to consumption. This means buying less, but choosing creations that carry meaning and genuinely reflect who we are.
IRK: Is there a fragrance within the House that, in your view, best embodies the DNA of Alexandre.J?
Amélie: The Art Nouveau collection perfectly represents the spirit of Alexandre.J. It embodies our attachment to craftsmanship, attention to detail, bottles as precious objects, and creations that go beyond the simple function of perfume.
It is a highly artistic collection that draws on dreams and imagination. For me, luxury begins precisely with this ability to inspire wonder and make people dream.
Regarding the new Elixir collection:
IRK: The word “Elixir” historically evokes transformation, ritual, and even something almost spiritual. Did these references influence the development of the collection?
Amélie: Yes, this notion deeply influenced the creation of the collection. Elixir evokes transformation, something precious and almost ceremonial.
This collection is an evolution of our original line, The Collector. We wanted to give it an even more contemporary and precious dimension. In particular, we sought to do this through sculpted bottles that replace the original aluminum design.
The fragrance thus becomes a ritual, a moment that reconnects us with ourselves.
IRK: What truly distinguishes the Elixir creations from a more classic fragrance in your olfactory approach? Is it a matter of concentration, structure, or primarily the emotion you seek to evoke?
Amélie: Concentration naturally plays an important role, but the essence lies elsewhere: in the intensity of the experience.
The Elixir creations embody a deeper, more enveloping presence, where each fragrance brings together color, material, and emotion.
The goal is not simply to create a stronger scent. Instead, it is to craft a fragrance that accompanies a particular expression of oneself.
IRK: The collection has a distinctly precious aesthetic. Was it important that the object itself immediately convey the idea of intensity and rarity?
Amélie: Absolutely. The object needed to immediately communicate the spirit of the collection. Elixir is something that can be offered as a gift, but also a gift one gives oneself.
The bottle therefore had to express this idea of value, depth, and exceptional character even before the fragrance itself is discovered.
