Located near Prague’s Masaryk railway station, this space that hosts The Kimchi preserves the charm of a former pastry shop while embracing Korean culture. Importantly, The Kimchi stands out for how it reinterprets the site’s heritage through the contemporary yet traditional interior design.
Founded by a Korean couple, this restaurant known as The Kimchi is devoted to introducing an authentic version of Korean street food to Prague. Every day, the team prepares ingredients in limited quantities to ensure freshness. At the same time, they offer guests a more personal dining experience.
An Open Kitchen Designed for Interaction
The restaurant features two interconnected areas. At the back, the kitchen handles ingredient preparation and cooking, while the team assembles each dish at the service counter in full view of customers. This layout streamlines the workflow without compromising the freshness of the food. At the same time, it creates a direct connection between the chefs and diners. Consequently, The Kimchi’s unique preparation process becomes a highlight for every visitor.
The architects, the graphic designer, and the clients developed the visual and functional concept through close collaboration. Moreover, the interior draws inspiration from Korean culinary traditions, contemporary pop culture, and the vibrant energy of Seoul. At the heart of the design is a dynamic wave motif inspired by the Korean flag. It appears throughout The Kimchi, from the exterior signage and service counter to the graphics applied across the walls.
A Bold Colour Palette Inspired by Korean Identity
The colour palette relies on the bold contrast of blue, red, and orange. Blue unifies the tables, benches, wall finishes, and lighting details. In contrast, the red grout runs through the white tiled grid. Also, the textured orange mesh suspended above the counter introduces energy, depth, and a distinctive visual identity to The Kimchi space.
Diners will notice that The Kimchi offers a fresh perspective on high-quality fast dining. Its open kitchen allows guests to watch the final preparation of their meals before choosing to sit at individual tables. Alternatively, they may gather around a shared concrete table or order takeaway. As a result, The Kimchi combines efficiency, fresh ingredients, and a strong architectural identity. This approach redefines the possibilities of Korean street food in Prague.
